TELEPHONE DIRECTORY

Sir,—ls a new telephone directory for Christchurch to be published? I have been a subscriber for 20 months. During that time many who have wanted me for urgent reasons have been unable to ring because they have not found the name in the book and have concluded that I was not connected. The books in the slot boxes, too, are in a disgraceful state, almost useless. We know there is a war on, and have to be careful; but surely the Government is altogether too saving over this matter?— Yours, etc., SUBSCRIBER. January 7, 1944. [The Postmaster’s Deputy, Christchurch, comments that telephone numbers can be obtained by ringing Information. Subscribers have the opportunity of notifying their friends and business associates. It is not known when a new directory will be issued.]
