MR NASH ARRIVES IN AMERICA

(Hec. 12,30 a.m.) WASHINGTON, Jan. 9. The New Zealand Legation has announced that the New Zealand Minister to Washington (Mr W. Nash) has arrived in the United States. Weather forced down his aeroplane at Nashville, Tennessee, on the way to Washington.

(Rec. 9.25 p.m.) NEW YORK, Jan. .9. Hundreds of officers, tons of mail, and special high priority cargo are being flown across the Pacific to Australia. Raymond Clapper, the “New York World Telegram’s’’ columnist m a message from Australia, says: “Our navy freight plane landed here after covering 9500 miles in three days and three nights, flying from Washington. “There are several Navy planes flying each way daily, plus several for the Army. The Navy’s air transport system has not lost a single plane in this operation and only one has been forced down. This is the backbone of our communications system in the war in the Pacific, giving speed and flexibility where they are needed.”

EXPLOSIONS IN OFFICE

LONDON, Jan. 8,

The windows, furniture, ceilings, and walls of Imperial Chemical Industries offices in Glasgow were badly damaged in an explosion last night. It was the second explosion in a fortnight caused by a number of small explosive missiles thrown in through the window. The boardroom was almost completely shattered. Three boys, who admitted causing an explosion in the same offices on Christmas Eve, were subsequently sent to a remand home.
