RAILWAY BUS FREIGHT CHARGES
Sir, —Thank you for investigating the position about charges for carting bread from Kaikoura to Hundalee. I wish to say however, that Is 2d a large loaf was quoted originally by the Road Services Department, and I learn that some persons were actually paying l£ 4d. What is needed is for the farmers and others collectively to demand the restoration of Newman’s "through" service for parcels only. The present svstem does not cater for the majority of residents between Kaikoura and Cheviot, and a vast amount of petrol and tyres is consumed through their having to call and collect.—Yours, etc., PRICE INSPECTOR PLEASE. October 28 1943.
