VICEREGAL I(P.A.) WELLINGTON. October 29., The Governor-General (Sir Cyril Newall) attended by Major C. J. Hol-land-Martin, returned to Wellington this afternoon from a visit to New Zealand service personnel in Tonga. During his Excellency’s absence the Chief Justice (Sir Michael Myers) acted as deputy of the Governor-General.
The Deputy-Prime Minister (the Hon. [ W. Nash) said last evening that the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. P. Fraser), who entered Lewisham Hospital, Wellington, on Thursday, was [progressing favourably.—(P.A.) Mr B. Roberts, M.P., Wairarapa, was sworn in by the Governpr-Genetal (Sir Cyril Newall) at Government House last evening as a member of the Executive Council as Minister of Agriculture and Marketing.—(P.A.) Mr D. W. J. Gould has been elected to the New Zealand Board of Directors of the New Zealand Shipping Com'pany, Ltd. News has been received by Mrs M. A. Hood, Avonside, that her son, Pilot Officer Frank Noel Hood, who has been missing for 18 months, is now a prisoner of war in Java. The Christchurch Cathedral Chapter has placed on record its sincere regret at the loss it suffered by the death of Mr Henry Douglass Andrews, for 50 years a valued member and for 30 years Chancellor. “During this period he gave loyal service to the chapter, and his counsel and advice were freely given and were of the utmost value to its deliberations. The chapter has lost in him a loyal colleague, a faithful friend, and a devoted churchman,”, states the resolution.
