PARCELS FUND

£1526 TO DATE The Mayoress’s Parcels Fund has now reached £1526, of which £753 was collected on the streets of the city and suburbs on August 6, donations amounting to £484 had been received before the day of the street appeal, and the sum of £289 has been received in donations since the street appeal. These figures were announced by tne Mayoress, Miss E. Couzins, at a meeting of the parcels fund executive held in the City Council Chambers yesterday afternoon. . . Miss Couzins thanked members ox her executive for their good work on the day of the street appeal. Members reported that many organisations were arranging money-making gatherings m aid of the fund, and it was hoped that the final result would be as good as that of last year. The Christmas parcels for men and women overseas will be packed on October 12, 13, and 14, and it was decided, at the meeting yesterday, that the fund should close on October 15. WOMEN’S DIVISION OF FARMERS’ UNION port Levy.—At the August meeting of the Port Levy Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union held at ‘'Fernlea," the president, Mrs F. Jenkins, presided. The Nurse Maude Association thanked the branch for a parcel of clothing the division had sent. A sales table was held to raise funds for the buying of material to make clothing for the Lady Galway Guild. A debate, “Should country women provide more eggs. for the towns,” was won by the affirmative. Winners of the competition were as follows: Best bowl of spring flowers: Miss Richfield 1, Mrs Wilson 2. Ginger nuts: Mrs Grant 1, Mrs Wilson, Mrs E. W. Coop, and Mrs H. B. Pelvin (equal) 2. Best bloom: Miss E. Jennings 1. Mrs Wilson is the holder of the monthly cup. Hostesses were Mrs G. Richfield and Miss E. Richfield.
