SUMNER TRAM SERVICE
Sir,—May I inquire whether the Tramway Board cannot employ better vehicles on the 7.17 a.m. Sumner tram? Surely those travelling for the longest period over the greatest distance at the worst time, and paying, the most in fares, are entitled to the benefit of the best trams available, instead of the antiquated ones constantly used, which are quite inadequate to draw two trailers. If the Tramway Board chairman, who resides in the district, were to stand, as regular patrons must, on this particular tram for a few mornings, he would certainly appreciate the necessity for a better service.—Yours, etc., R H August 12, 1943. [“We are doing the best we can with the rolling stock available; Except for a few trips, the large one-man type car is used on Sumner. The board’s first consideration after the war will be to improve the rolling stock.” This comment was made on the above letter by the general manager of the Christ--1 church Tramways (Mr H. E. Jarman).!
