MALVERN POWER BOARD
Sir,—Before replying to Mr Barrs, I waited until the black-out was lifted off the Greendale district. Darfield was blacked out one night, Greendale a month. I yjuite expected the engineer would use the plea of priority of power for railway signals. With this I agree, and would go further by including the hospital, doctor, and the gaol, but would let all the other Darfield consumers have a turn occasionally of a black-out. The secretary’s search of 18 years’ records proved that Darfield has always had priority. The engineer and staff are blameless, as they take their orders from the board members. There is a rumour that the , Malvern Power Board is. the "nly board in New Zealand that levies c land rate. Is this true? If not. contradict it in the monthly report and remove that pole from the swamp, which seems to delay repairs.—Yours, etc., DISILLUSIONED. Greendale, August 7, 1943. [The engineer and secretary of the Malvern Electric Power Board said in comment on this letter that he had nothing further to add to his previous statement.]
