CYCLING

The Canterbury Cycling Centre held the Hope Gibbons Shield match race for teams over a 25-mile course at West Melton on Saturday afternoon. This was won by the Avon Club’s No. 3 team, comprising L. Bayliss (captain), W. Bowden, R. Hall, N. Thomas, and E. Weller, in 64mln 17sec. The Grant Memorial Cup race, run at the same time for junior riders, was also won by a team from the Avon Club. The team consisted of O. H. Wilson (captain). P. Tucker, P. Doyle, R. Elliott, and R. Winder. The time was 65min 40sec.
