FIRE BRIGADE DANCE There was a large attendance of firemen and their friends at the annual dance held by the Lyttelton Volunteer Fire Brigade, in the Excelsior Hall on SatUl C?. r Hempstalk, chairman of the fire prevention committee of the Borough Council, presented a sixth geld bar, for 39 years’ service, for Superintendent Carson, who was absent through Illness, to Mrs Carson. He also presented second and third silver bars, for 11 years’ service. to Sapper S. E. Carson, who is on furlough from the Middle East. In doing so. he expressed the hope that the war would end soon and that Sapper Carson would return to the service of the brigade. where he might some time in the future, occupy the position of superintendent, at present held by his father. Cr. Hempstalk presented a certificate for three years’ service to - Miss, P. Le Comte, on behalf other brother. Fireman G. Le Comte, who Is serving overseas. Other awards were: silver bar for seven years' service. Fireman J. Beckett; certificates for three years’ service. Firemen D. E. McKendry. C. Paulger. and F Heal.
