SPANISH TRIBUTE TO BRITISH EMPIRE
♦ “UNITY, HARMONY, AND SOLIDARITY” (Rec. 10 p.m.) MADRID, Aug. 7. A remarkable tribute to the British Empire is paid by the London correspondent of the Spanish newspaper “Ya.” He says: "In the midst of political and social disintegration the British Empire’s unity, harmony, and solidarity are one-of the few reassuring and comforting sights to which we can turn without feeling giddiness. “The British Empire is actuated exclusively by the idea of individual freedom and respect for humanity, < It sets an example, and constitutes a hope as* well as a guarantee that no disorder, barbarism, or tyranny shall master the world. "Nowhere in the British Empire, with the exception of the United Kingdom, is there conscription. Thus to-day millions of Canadians. South Africans, Australians, New Zealanders, Indians, and -Jews are fighting and dying as volunteers.”
