♦ INJURIES PROVE FATAL • LINESMAN’S DEATH IN HOSPITAL Mr Kenneth Daniel Ridden, aged 28 years, of 8 Grey street, Spreydon, died in the Christchurch Public Hospital yesterday from injuries received at Hororata last Saturday. Mr Ridden, who was an electrical linesman employed by the Municipal Electricity Department, Christchurch, was on loan to the Malvern Power Board to assist with the restoration of power services interrupted by the recent snowstorm. On Saturday he fell from a power pole at Hororata, receiving head injuries and concussion. An inquest will be opened this morning. CHILD SERIOUSLY SCALDED A child aged one year, Colin Robert Thwaites, whose parents live at 114 Radley street, Opawa, was admitted to the Christchurch Public Hospital last evening suffering from scalds to the neck and chest received when he upset a jug of boiling water over himself. His present condition is reported to be serious. AIRMAN STRUCK BY PROPELLER (P.A.) WELLINGTON, July 8. An airman was seriously injured at a North Island Air Force station yesterday, when he was struck by the propeller of an aircraft which was taxi-ing out to the runway before taking off. The injured man was Sergeant lan Courtney Rowe, whose father is Mr A. C. Rowe, of Dunedin.
