OBITUARY
MR J. W. SHAW Mr John William Shaw, who died recently at Dunedin, was the eldest son of the late Mr and Mrs David Shaw. The parents were among the earliest settlers in the Mackenzie Country, and Mr Shaw was born at Lake Tekapo on April 2. 1863. He was the second white child to be horn in that part of the country, and the first white child to be baptised there. The family moved to Winchester and later to Geraldine, and Mr Shaw was educated at the schools of these towns. He took up farming, and owned farms at Geraldine, Arundel. Hunter, Temuka, Pukerau (1912-17), East Chatton (1917-36). Mr Shaw married in 1892 Miss Mary Crammond, o!f Hilton, Canterbury. There were two sons of this marriage, David John, who was killed in the Great War. and Robert H. Shaw, of Ma Waro. Cave. Mr Shaw married again in 1929, his wife being Mrs Gear, of Dunedin. They had one son, Inn David. A stepson. Harry Gear, is now in the Royal New Zealand Air Force. Mr Shaw was chairman of the East Chatton School Committee for some years, and was an elder in the Presbyterian Church for more than 52 years.
