DENSE FOG AT AUCKLAND
CLOSING OP PORT NECESSARY “ The Press ” Special Service AUCKLAND, June 10. ©ne of the most dense and prolonged fogs for many years was experienced in Auckland yesterday, when th.e harbour, the Hauraki Gulf, and thp city were enveloped for the greater part of the day. The port was closed ’all day. Starting at midnight on Tuesday the log became dense by'2 ajp. yesterday, apd, apart from a flight lifting at 6.30 a'.nj- remained thick over the harbour until after I o’clock in the afternoon. 4dtk<mgh it lifted over the harbour between 1 and 5 o’clock, it became heavy again last night for several hours.
Ferry Boat Aground The fog cleared in the gulf during the day and was confined to the harbour aiid city at night. Admiration for. the skill of the masters of ferry boats was expressed by passengers. Although visibility was nil and thebe were obstacles in the stream no collisions occurred. A ferry on the run to Eayswater, however, went aground about 200 yards from the Bayswater wharf shortly before 7 o'clock last night, and it was stranded on the mud for shout 40 minutes.
