SALVAGE OF CARDBOARD
Sir,—About 18 months ago I put a small notice on our gatepost, “Waste Paper and Cardboard received here, to be taken to City Collection.” Neighbours and strangers brought in to the boxes on the verandah (a sack in a box is good, I find) their cartons, old papers, etc., even old music no longer in vogue. When enough had accumulated I took it to the waste paper depot opposite the High street Post Office, two interested neighbours often taking it in for me. This is still going on, and a great deal of waste has been collected, with a minimum of trouble. I think many people find the square a most inconvenient place to take their waste collection to.—Yours, etc., L H H April 4, 1943.
