CHILDREN’S FARES

Sir, —I have planned a‘short and economical trip at Easter with my child of 12 and find that there is some doubt ns to fares. I have always understood 14 to be the’ half-fare age, as in England. but I’have bcen’ told that it is 12 by some authorities and 14 by others. If it is 12 then it is a most improper and unjust imposition. Children are allowed to use the trams up to school leaving age at less than half price.— Yours, etc.. POOR OLD DAD. ' March 30. 1943. [The District Traffic Manager said that children under three years of age are carried free on the New Zealand railways, and those between the ages of three and 12 are carried at half rates. Full- rates are charged for children over 12 years of age. This has been the practice for many years.]
