ALIEN DOCTORS
Sir,—l should like to ask some questions about German aliens in this country. 1. Is it fair to send overseas more than 200 New Zealand doctors and allow aliens to come in and take their places? Moreover, these aliens were sponsored and had patients brought to them by officials of the Trades Hall. 2. Is it fair to restrict the movements of New Zealand medical men and to compel them to remain in remote districts while German aliens can set up in the large cities, or whereever they wish? 3. Is it reasonable in a country at war to allow German aliens to give certificates to members of our fighting forces? 4. Are they outside the law? Two months ago a sworn statement was handed in by a patient and referred to the Medical Officer of Health. This stated that an alien doctor had for each visit claimed direct on the social security fund and charged the patient an extra fee m cash. No known action has been taken by the authorities. —Yours, etc., E. R. REAY. January 29, 1943. [This letter was referred to the Minister of Health, but no reply has been received.—Ed., “The Press.”]
