£25,000 APPEAL

MISSION REHABILITATION IN WESTERN PACIFIC

The cost of replacing buildings alone in the Methodist Mission in' the Solomon Islands is estimated at between £30,000 and £40,000. But in view of the upward trend of prices for materials it is assumed that the cost will be nearer £40,000. This information was given to the Methodist Conference in Christchurch yesterday when foreign missions were under consideration. Conference resolved that in view of the very heavy loss which the mission had suffered, and the urgency of rehabilitation work that was only too apparent, a special appeal should be launched among church members for not less a sum than £25,000. Priority will be granted for the appeal this year. To facilitate the appeal, the Rev. A. H. Voyce, a missionary from the Solomons, will be engaged on special deputation work during this year, or until such time as he can return to the western Pacific.
