Post for German General. —lt is officially announced in Berlin that General Guderian has been appointed Inspector-General of Tank Forces. He will be responsible directly to Hitler, General Guderian played a big part in organising Hitler's mechanised army, and he was the general who directed the unsuccessful panzer attack on Moscow in 1941. —London. South African Defence Vote.— Budget estimates for 1943-44, show that the South African defence vote for the current financial year was £96.000,000 sterling, exceeding the estimate by £16,000,000. —Cape Town, February 22. 4
