ARMED SERVICES APPEALS
, * DECISIONS OF NO. 2 BOARD Some applications for release . from camp were reviewed by the No. 2 Armed Forces Appeal Board yesterday. The board comprised Messrs J. S.' Barnett (chairman), G.'T. Thurston, and H. H. McCaw. The secretary, Mr E. D. Thompson, represented the Crown, and Captain S. G. Bowron the military authorities. In an appeal by the New Zealand Wool • scourers' Association for Betsy Clare Harrison, the association’s representative, Mr Keppel Archer, said that Miss Harrison, thinking the need was urgent, had enlisted as a V.A.D for service overseas, but found it was necessary to spend six months in New Zealand first. In the circumstances she thought that the need for her to stay with the association wa? more urgent, as it was doing important work under Government contract, involving' the sending of large shipments of wool to overseas countries, including Russia. The appeal was adjourned sine die Other appeals were dealt with as follows; Charles Thomas Campion (New Zealand Railways), release recommended;,. Joseph Foster Mann (Papanui Fruit and Storage Company), adjourned sine die; Norman Broadhurst (Papanui Fruit and Storage Company), release from April 1 to June 30 recommended; Sevan Walter Hiddleston (Papanui Fruit and Storage Company), dismissed; Frederick' Francis Jenkins and Malcolm lan Lambie (State Coal Depot), adjourned sine die; Alfred George Christensen (J, Tait), adjourned sine die; Ivan Albert Jordon (M. H. Small), extension for three months granted; C. F. Corps (appeal by appellant), release recommended; Robert M. Brown (Public Works Department), release for six months recommended; Lester George Humphries (Public Works Department), release for two months recommended; Maurice Charles Hockley (Kempthorne Prosser and Company, Ltd.), release recommended: Herbert Ernest Tomlinson (Andrews Twine Company, Ltd.), dismissed; David Bruce Salvasen (F. C. Pcnfold and Company), adjourned sine die; James Shearman (Dominion Builders. Ltd.), reserved; Alexander James Shearman (Dominion Builders, Ltd.), adjourned sine die. The appeal for the release of William Murdock was dismissed for want of prosecution.
