ARMY DEPARTMENT DEFRAUDED
WOMAN PLEADS GUILTY
iP.A.) DUNEDIN, December 10. A married woman, whose name was suppressed, pleaded guilty in the Magistrate's Court to-day to obtaining £5 13s 9d from the Army Department, by falsely representing that she was the wife of a man other than her husband. Detective-Sergeant Hall said that the accused had been living with this other man, and when he was called into camp he filled up an allotment form which he induced her to sign. By reason of this she received an allotment of £5 13s 9d before the fraud was discovered. The woman had acted foolishly and under coercion from the man. ho said. The man had been convicted and fined £lO at Timaru for his part in the offence. The accused was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence if called upon within three years, and ordered to make restitution of £5 13s 9d.
