CHRISTCHURCH MARKET QUIET In contrast to the activity of the previous fortnight the Christchurch Slock Exchange has experienced a quiet week. On the average buying quotations have outnumbered selling quotations by three to one. Government Stock has been firm, with very little offering, and no sellers of the issues carrying a higher rate of interest. The demand for banking shares has been good, with prices for New Zealand Bank shares showing an improvement. Insurance shares have been Inactive. On the other hand there has been more interest shown in coal shares this week. Australian shares have been in good demand, and price rises have been recorded in British Tobacco, Broken Hill Proprietary, Dunlop Rubber, and others. Mining shares have remained quiet. COMPANY NEWS

Dominion Breweries.—Dominion Breweries, Ltd., have declared an interim dividend of 4 per cent, on preference and ordinary shares, payable on December 18. The payment is the same as last year, when the full distribution was 7 per cent. Reid Rubber.—The accounts of Reid Rubber Mills, Ltd., for the year ended September 30 show a net profit of £10,634, compared with £10,140 last year and £7694 in 1940. The profit is struck after making provision for depreciation and contingencies, and also taxation at £30,250, against £19,300 in the previous year. The directors recommend a dividend on all shares at 6 per cent, per annum (last year 7 per cent.) on amounts paid up. This dividend will absoro £7856, leaving to be carried forward £2778, which, with the balance brought forward, will bring the undistributed profits to £13,649.—(P.5.5.)

RANGIORA HORSE FAIR

About 70 horses were yarded at, the monthly horse fair at Rangiora yesterday. Top price of £29 was obtained for a sixyear draught gelding. Other prices were: Good draughts, five to seven years,- £l2 to £l6: eight to 10 years, £8 to £11; aged draughts, £2 to £6; hacks, £8 to £ls. with one at £2l; unbroken threeyear and four-year draughts, £6 to £ll.
