Social security is only part of tiie general social policy.—From the report of Sir William Beveridge proposing a social security plan for 'Britain. Five Giants on the Road of Reconstruction. Their Names are These: Want, Squalor, Ignorance, and Idleness, And dread Disease. The First, Sir William thinks he can destroy. That may be so. Want is an obvious Giant whose grim face His Victims know. But Ignorance—by what intrepid Champion Shall he be slain. Whose secret Sabotage confuses even The noblest Brain? And Idleness, though in his Power for Mischief A Giant, too, Is dv’arfed by that Colossus of a Problem: “What shall we do?” Giants Disease and Squalor arc but Batmen To bigger Giants. . Defeat them, and their Bosses in the Background Still breathe Defiance. Oh, brave Sir William, your Report has Merit. But needs, as Sequel, A Plan (I wish I knew of One) for making Men free and equal.
