LOCAL BODIES TO MEET CENTRAL COMMITTEE The willingness of the Suburban Local Bodies’ Association to meet the central committee of the Metropolitan E.P.S. to discuss the proposal of the association for the reconstitution of the central committee was announced yesterday by the chairman of the association (Mr J, E. Tait). Mr Tait said the association did not consider such a discussion the correct approach to the question, but, if the City Council and central committee thought it would be helpful, the association was willing to join in the meeting. Mr Tait added that the decision of the City Council not to send representatives to the proposed meeting of contributing local bodies, at which the suggested reconstitution of the central . committee was to be discussed, made that meeting unnecessary. Suburban local bodies were still of the opinion that a smaller central committee was desirable. Their representatives would again meet the Minister of Civil Defence (the Hon. D. Wilson), when he returned to Christchurch this week to ascertain the opinion of local bodies on , the recommendation that the central committee should be reconstituted, , largely on a basis of local body repre- j u sentation. Mr Tait said ho still hoped _ that City Council representative! would join in consideration of that n g commendation, which was made at $ m f meeting attended by the Minister last month.
