CUSTOMS RETURNS BIG INCREASE IN AVAR EXPENSES REVENUE The notable feature of the customs returns at Christchurch for the month of November is the greatly increased amount collected on account of the War Expenses Account compared with the preceding November. The amount more than doubled—from £52,407 to £134,983. For the eight months of the financial year the increase was £399,441 to £889,566. Customs revenue for the two months and also for the eight months, showed a substantial decline. Figures for the month, with November, 1941, in parenthesis, are;— Customs, £168,327 (£240,926); beer excise, £30,747 (£30,340); sales tax, £108,218 (£110,2921; war expenses account, £276,053 (£127,295). WELLINGTON Customs revenue collected in Wellington last month, with the figures for the previous November in parenthesis, is;— Customs, £194,571 (£258,395); sales tax, £92,508 (£97,229); beer excise, £14,348 (£8156); war tax, £344,427 (£125,154).
