TROTTING NOTES
Consistency Shadow Maid was unplaced in the Intermediate Championship at Addington on November 7, but this is the only time in seven starts this season that she has been further back than fourth. Her impressive win in the King George Handicap at Forbury Park on Saturday was her second this season, besides which she has been three times second, once third, and once fourth. In her latest race she proved herself a good stayer and her two miles in 4min 21 4-ssec represented a fine performance. Trained by J. Bryce at Hornby, Shadow Maid was driven by J. Bryce, jun. Even more impressive than Shadow Maid’s record is that registered by Countless, who in eight starts this season has won four races, has been once second, and three times third. Countless is by Jack Potts from Purple Patch, and a half-brother to Loyal Key. Countless like Loyal Rey, was bred by the Methven sportsman, Mr P. A. Watson. In the last 15 months Countless has won eight, races. Full of Promise In Cheval d'Or, P. P. Gallagher has a very promising pacer that has been given plenty of time to develop, and his first and third at Forbury Park on Saturday showed the improvement he has made. He first came under the notice of Christchurch racegoers when he was somewhat unlucky to be beaten into third place in the first division of the Improvers’ Handicap at the New Brighton Club’s meeting at Addington on October 10, and at the Oamaru meeting he was again in third place. In his six. starts this season he has been once first and four times third. He is a six-year-old chestnut gelding by Rey de Oro— Erin's Princess. From Southland Absolutely, a five-year-old mare by Quite Sure from Sonette, trained in Southland by E. Todd, has for some tme had a reputation for extreme speed, but her win in the Hurricane Handicap at Forbury Park was her first success. Fancy Goods, who finished second, is a six-year-old mare by U. Scott—Entice, and the third horse. Bluestock, is a four-year-old filly by Jack Potts—Cushla d’Or. Arion Mac, who finished second to Integrity in the Freyberg Handicap, is a six-year-old gelding by Arion Axworthy (by Arion Guy, Imin 59Jsec) from Helen McGregor, a short-pedigreed mare by Coldstream Bells from Charity Belle by Bellman—Charity. He is trained at Gore by D. M, Kerr. New Zealand-bred Pearl Scott, a recent winner at Perth, has breeding of interest to New Zealand sportsmen, for she is by U. Scott from Pearl Parrish, a well-bred mare by Guy Parrish from Bell Bingen, by Bingen from Berthabell, the dam of Great Bingen and other good horses. Another horse in Logan Derby, a popular little pacer well known on New Zealand tracks, was a winner in Tasmania recently, when he conceded 96 yards over a mile and a quarter in the Mowbray Handicap and won in 2min 55sec. The stake was worth £42 10s. Logan Derby is now 12 years old.
