The remains are believed to be those of an elderly single man, Michael Sullivan, a prospector/'who disappeared from his camp at Merrijigs, near Reefton, time ago. At the time of his disappearance an unsuccessful search was made by the police and several parties, who were unable to find any trace of Sullivan in the heavily bushed and rugged country. The Reefton police were notified of the finding of the skeleton, and yesterday the remains were removed to Reefton, where an inquest will be held at a later date. > From Sullivan’s camp to the spot where the remains were found is a distance of approximately six miles over heavily bush-clad hills. The missing man suffered from memory lapses. He was well known in Reefton, having been for many years a miner.
