VICEREGAL (P.A.) WELLINGTON, November 25. The Governor-General (Sir Cyril Newall) left Wellington by air for Invercargill to-day. _ Dr H. T. Jennings was yesterday appointed a temporary assistant gynaecologist by the North Canterbury Hospital Board, to replace Dr. A. M. Hartnell, who has left on military duties. Dr. Bruce Thompson, who has been awarded the D.S.O. for gallantry in action, was a house surgeon at the Christchurch Hospital before he joined the Army. The North Canterbury Hospital Board yesterday passed a motion of congratulation. Mr R. G. Bishop, president of the North Canterbury district of the Farmers' Union, was appointed by the executive yesterday to represent the Farmers’ Union on the North Canterbury District Council of Primary Production. Sympathy with the relatives of the late Second-Lieutenant P. E. C. Gillett, of Rangiora, was expressed by the North Canterbury district executive of the Farmers’ Union at its meeting yesterday. Second-Lieutenant Gillett represented the Canterbury District Pig Council on the executive before going overseas.
