Callaghan, was honoured this morning, when Solemn Requiem Mass was sung in St. Patrick’s Cathedral. ITie congregation, all of which could not be accommodated in the cathedral, included contingents of American servicemen, senior United States naval and military officers, Mr A. S. Richards, M.P., representing the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. P. Fraser), the Consular Corps, and representatives of public bodies. , Mass was celebrated by the Rev. Father Gallagher, S.J., the United States naval chaplain. Bishop Liston, who presided, said in his address that the deed of courage which brought Rear-Admiral Callaghan’s life to a close was no act of sudden daring. A hero was not made in an hour, but ih the long years before, while nobility and strength were being grafted on his soul. Such an act of sacrifice for the sanctities of home a*.d the protection of country and of all that was good and true in the world, was the highest use man could make of his life. "We revere. in our hearts and in prayer the memory of the Admiral, his officers, and men who died for us, and make resolve to keep in our souls the inspiration of their deeds,” said the Bishop.
