RETAILER’S COMPLAINT “UNABLE TO SELL AT j FIXED PRICES» < A complaint that he had not bett able to sell onions or spring carroa for some weeks, because the wholesale prices in the markets were greater than the fixed maximum prices M retail sales, was made to a reporter« “The Press” yesterday by Mr Cecu Lilleyman, North Brighton. Mr mil’ man said the maximum retail price onions was fid per lb, and the m®' mum price for carrots 4d per Ip. in the markets yesterday the'price W onions was fid per lb and for cairoa 3Jd for half a pound. Mr Lilleyman said’ that if a fruiter® were honest and obeyed the pro* fixing orders he could not afford™ buy onions and spring carrots atnPJ market rates. In his own case, customers were suffering, because was the only shop in about a MjWj mile. They simply had to go witM® carrots and onions. ..... He said he had referred the pop' 1 ?® to the Christchurch branch of w* Internal Marketing Department. ■ officer had agreed that it was umw* tunate that honest retailers shouww penalised because others forcea r the price for vegetables which in short supply, and said the P®s}jL would be adjusted in time.
