SWIMMING POOL AT WASHDYKE

OFFICIAL OPENING BY HON. f ■ A. H. NORDMEYER “It says a great deal for the enthusiasm of your committee and the generosity of your people that it should be possible to open this pool free of debt,’* said the Hon. A. H. Nordmeyer, Minister of Health, at Washdyke on Saturday, when a learners’ swimming pool at the school was officially declared open. “The purpose of the pool is to make the children ‘water-conscious,’ ” continued Mr Nordmeyer. "Swimming is one of the finest forms of exercise, and here the children will be given an opportunity to learn to swim well.” Congratulations to the Washdyke School Committee on its achievement in building the pool, were extended by Mr A. E. Lawrence, on behalf of the Canterbury Education Board. .The baths were officially declared open by Mr Nordmeyer, and Mr L, C. Robinson, chairman of the baths committee, handed over the keys to the chairman of the school committee (Mr J. King).
