U.S. FORCES IN FIJI
WELCOME BY GOVERNOR , SUVA, Nov. 20. “It is now permissible to refer to the presence in our midst of a great force of all arms of our allies of the United States, and to extend to them officially on behalf of the Government and people of the Colony that public welcome which we have done our best to extend personally since their arrival," said the Governor of Fiji (Sir Philip Mitchell), when opening the Budget session of the Legislative Council of Fiji. Sir Philip said that the council had assembled in the light of the dawn of victory as a consequence of the momentous operations in Egypt, Libya, French North Africa, the Solomon Islands, and New Guinea, which have yielded a series of brilliant strategical successes for the forces of the grand alliance of freedom. “At such a time the hearts of all of us are filled with thankfulness to the heroic men of all the fighting forces, and with rejoicing, especially for the people of Great Britain and of that indomitable island. Malta,” he said.
