MINOR OUTBREAK OF SCARLET FEVER
CASES REPORTED AT TIMARU Although a minor outbreak of scarlet fever has been reported at Timaru, no notifications of cases have been received by the Borough Sanitary Inspector (Mr A. W. B. Watkinson) since Wednesday. An investigation of the possible causes of the slight outbreak was carried out by Dr. T. Fletcher 'Telford, Medical Officer of Health for Canterbury and Westland. He issued instructions and these were immediately carried out. There was no cause for alarm, Mr Watkinson said yesterday. The outbreak was confined to a few families in one small area of the town, and an increase in the incidence of the fever was not expected. Mr Watkinson added that no confirmation had as yet been obtained for rumours that the outbreak had been caused by the milk supply. However, as a precautionary measure, only pasteurised milk is being delivered in the Highfleld area, where the outbreak was first notified. The kindergarten at St. John’s schoolroom. Highfleld, has been closed for a.fortnight. ,
