ZONING IN SOUTH ISLAND

♦- - PROGRESS REPORTED AS SUBSTANTIAL DELIVERIES OF CITY BUTCHERS A further report on the progress nade in zoning schemes in the South Island • was given yesterday by the south Island zoning officer (Mr T. H. Langford). One of the most recent Christchurch developments concerns sutchers, who will meet on Monday ,o consider a scheme for restricted deliveries, the scheme to be later submitted to Mr Langford and then to the Christchurch zoning commute.- ' Reviewing progress. Mr Langford said that in Christchurch the new pread scheme providing for “one shop, me baker,” had been approved by the soning committee and would come nto operation shortly. The zoning of deliveries by aerated-water and cordial nanufacturers was ready for gazet:ing; coal merchants had set up a sommittee to work out a scheme for the zoning of deliveries, this to be approved by the zoning officer; butchers were being dealt with, and it vas expected that a scheme would shortly be presented by dyers and fleaners for approval. Other branches )f trade being considered were hardware, painters’, and plumbers’ merchants. Data from grocers were .to rand, and the need for a restriction pf deliveries was apparent, he said. The Ashburton bread scheme had peen gazetted and was working satisactorily, Mr Langford said. Timaru putchers had voluntarily agreed to no wholesale or retail deliveries, but he scheme had yet to be submitted :o the Timaru zoning committee. The Timaru bread scheme, on similar lines to that- in Christchurch, had ;one to Wellington for gazetting. In Mosglel, a scheme for the zoning of nilk deliveries had been effected. The Invercargill bread scheme was being lealt with by the zoning committee, md- would shortly be gazetted; actuilly, it was in operation and working ratisfactorily, and at least five vehicles lad been eliminated. A scheme covering all deliveries in the Southbridge-Lincoln area was peing prepared, and Rangiora tradespeople dealing in all commodities had peen zoned. Bread, groceries, milk, and pieat in the Amberley-Oxford area liad seen likewise dealt with. In Nelson the zoning of butchers’ deliveries had been gazetted, and pther schemes in that district were working well. In Picton, action was peing taken about milk deliveries; in he Motueka-Tasman-Moutere area the pread output had been pooled and ;here was no delivery within a mile •adius. There was no house-to-house pread delivery throughout Marlporough. In Blenheim, Picton, Sedlon, and Havelock, deliveries were nade to stores and service car iepots. In Dunedin, milk, bread, meat, serated waters, and ice-cream schemes were in operation, and a scheme for :oal was almost complete.
