NAVAL BUILDING IN AUSTRALIA

MINESWEEPERS AND DESTROYERS (Rec. 9.30 p.m.) MELBOURNE. Nov. 19. Australia is building minesweepers at the rate ol at least two a month, m addition to her programme of merchant shipping and Tribal class destroyer construction. It was stated in Melbourne to-day that the construction of minesweepers was a vital pert of Australia’s shipbuilding programme. These Australiandesigned vessels do service not only as minesweepers, but also as patrol boats and escort sloops. The rate of construction of Tribal class destroyers has not been disclosed. An interesting feature of Australia’s shipbuilding piogramme has been the decenirdisation of construction. Many parts for ships are built at centres miles from the coast.
