BUYING OF RATIONED GOODS
INSTRUCTION TO PATRIOTIC COUNCIL The fact that rationed goods cannot be purchased for patriotic purposes without an official order from a provincial patriotic council or the National Patriotic Fund Board was emphasised in a circular from the secretary of the National Patriotic Fund Board (Mr G. A. Hayden) received by the Canterbury Provincial Patriotic Council at its meeting yesterday. Mr Hayden said the Rationing Controller relied on such patriotic organisations to implement his general policy that no orders for rationed goods be issued without goed reason. The Rationing Controller asked that no new material be bought by the Lady Galway Guild except for renovating second-hand garments: that rationed goods bought for inclusion in farewell gift parcels be not identical with service issues or patriotic gifts from the common pool, such as scarves, balaclavas, and mittens; and that no oatriotic wool be issued to any organisation unless the completed garments were returned to the common pool. “Provincial councils are to sec that all orders comply with the above, otherwise it may moan the withdrawal of these privileges,” concluded Mr Hayden,
