LARGE STATE GARAGE PLANNED
♦ TWO-ACRE BLOCK PURCHASED A two-acre block of land at the corner of Tuam and Montreal streets, formerly occupied by the timber mill and yards of C. S. McCuily, Ltd., has been acquired by the Government. After the war, a garage for uovernmc. vehicles will be built on the block. Confirmation of the purchase of the land was given yesterday in an interview by the Postmaster-General (.the Hon. P. C. Webb). He said that tne housing of Government vehicles was now spread all over the city, and it was necessary that they should be housed in central premises. “There will be no building, however, until after the war," said the Minister. It was proposed to build a modern garage for all Post and Telegraph Department vehicles, and also for other Public Servitfe cars and lorries. and the building would also contain an up-to-date workshop. The timber mill was completely destroyed by fire early in the morning of November 19, 1941,: the fire being one of the most spectacular seen in the city.
