CENTRAL COMMITTEE OF E.P.S.
* RECONSTITUTION PROPOSAL Doubt whether suburban local authorities would have as effective representation on the controlling body of the Metropolitan E.P.S. under the suggested reconstitution of the central committee as they had at present, was expressed yesterday by the Chief Warden (Mr E. H. Andrews). Mr Andrews said the City Council, which contributed much more to the E.P.S. than all the suburban councils combined, would have.to have a majority of members and. with a smaller committee, each of the suburban author!-* ties could not have its own representative as it had now. Mr Andrews said the proposal to reconstitute the committee with a much smaller membership was put forward by a meeting of suburban local authorities attended by the Minister of Civil Defence (the Hon. D. Wilson) on Friday. There was no official representative of the City Council at the meeting, but he was present in his capacity as District Controller and was able to explain the City Council’s position. He had not agreed with the suggested new constitution. Mr Andrews said the proposed new constitution of the central committee would mean that controllers could attend the meetings without having voting power. He said the question would have to be discussed at a conference after local authorities had considered the proposal. E.P.S. Resignations A meeting of the central committee of the Metropolitan E.P.S. will be held on Thursday of next week, when the resignations of the four members of the organising committee (Messrs W. Machin, M. E. Lyons. W. S. MacGibbon. and W. H. E. Flint) will be considered.
