NEW ZEALANDER WINS D.S.C.

BRAVERY IN ATTACK ON MADAGASCAR

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, November 16. The King has approved the award of the Distinguished Service Cross to Probationary Temporary Sub-Lieutenant (A) Hugh Harold Alexander, R.N.Z.N.V.R. The award is for bravery and enterprise while serving in His Majesty’s ships—transport and Royal Fleet auxiliaries—in successful operations; which led to the surrender of the Important base of Diego Suarez. SulvLieutenant Alexander entered the Royal New Zealand Navy in 1940 as a naval airman, second class, for service with the Royal Navy, where he is still serving. He was promoted to his present rank in July, 1941.
