PROMOTION IN AIR FORCE
AIR COMMODORE G. S. HODSON
Group Captain G. S. Hodson, C.8.E., A.F.C.. R.A.F., has been promoted to the rank of air commodore. Air Commodore Hodson came to New Zealand in 1938 and was commanding officer at an Air Force station in Canterbury, He is now commanding the R.N.Z.A.F. southern group headquarters. Air Cdmmodore Hodson’s flying career began in 1917 when he joined the Royal Flying Corps. He saw active service in the Great War and subsequently took part in operations In Iraq. For some time he was chief flying instructor at the No. 11 Flying Training School. Wittering. He was seconded to the Royal New Zealand Air Force in 1938 and became commanding officer at one of the principal Air Force stations. His promotion from wing commander to group captain was announced in December, 1940, and in May this year he Was transferred to Air Force Headquarters. His name was in the Birthday Honours in June this year, when he received the C.B.E. in recognition of his long and distinguished service. His decorations include the Belgian Croix de Guerre and King Feisal’s Medal.
