LIQUOR SUPPLIED TO YOUTH

JUDGE ORDERS INQUIRY

(P.A.) AUCKLAND, Sept. 24. "I direct that inquiries be made into the circumstances in which a young man of this age who has been living in the town for some time has been supplied, according to. report, with a case of beer as well as being served in an hotel.” This direction was given by Mr Justice Fair in the Supreme Court to-day, when admitting to probation Kenneth Roy Spanhake, aged 20, who had been committed from Kaikohe for sentence on a charge of breaking and entering a shop and stealing money. His Honour said it seemed that there had been some breach of the licensing regulations in respect of the selling of liquor to a youth under 21 years. Those responsible for such a breach had contributed in a measure to the prisoner's outlook, and should be called to account. A condition Imposed was that the prisoner should not enter an hotel until he is 21 years of age.
