SWIMMING

EAST CHRISTCHURCH CLUB There was an attendance of about 30 members at the fifty-second annual general meeting of the East Christchurch Amateur Swimming Club. The annual report and balance-sheet were adopted. The balance-sheet showing a credit of £2l 9s Bd.

Mr W. Nortontaylor was elected president of the club for the fifth successive year, and the following were the other various officers: —Patron, Mr W. F. Herrick; vice-presidents, Mrs A. Brown, the Hon. H. T. Armstrong, Messrs S. Baird, H. J. Ballin, P. G. Bamford, J. Bryce, G. H. Christie. J. G. Johnston, P. R. Smith, W. Rea, R. P. Harris: club captain, Mr W. Hume; vice-captain, Mr B. McNeilage; women’s captain, Miss J. Barnsley: honorary secretary, Mrs B. Blake; honorary treasurer, Mr J. W. Baughan; honorary auditor, Mr P. R. Smith; honorary handicapper, Mr A. T.' F. Stokes; committee, Misses E. Brittain, E. Harris, E. Benson, J. Baughan, Messrs G. Harris, H. Dean, N. Truman, R. Henry, B. Couling. The various challenge cups which had been competed for during the season were presented to the winners by Mr Charles Bryant, a life member of the club. UNITED CLUB’S OFFICERS ELECTED The following officers were elected at the annual meeting of the Christchurch and United Swimming Club; Patron, Mr J. R. McKenzie; president, Mr J. R. Buchanan: vice-presidents, Messrs G. Gyde, A. J. Ballin, A. R. Jacobson, C. W. Hervey, F. F. Williams, T. H. Barker, J. C. Wallace, R. D. Harker-Brown, H. T. Goldsmith, S. F. Hemmingsen, W. Low, W. Massetti, F. A. Noble, C. Lange, B. O’Neill, and C. Sanders; club captain, Mr W. Donaldson; junior captain, Mr B. Samson; honorary secretary and treasurer, Mr G. R. Lawrie; committee, Messrs F, Jennings, K. Rothwell, R. Hemmingsen, M. Mitten, and M. F. Samson; delegates to Canterbury Centre, Messrs R. D. HarkerBrown and G. R. Lawrie; honorary auditor, Mr R. D. Harker-JBrown. Mr M. F. Samson was elected a member of the club. The appointment of an assistant secretary-treasurer was left to the Incoming committee.
