Mrs Guy Tapley (Dunedin) is visiting Christchurch, and is the guest of Mrs Gordon Coull, Papanui road. Mrs C. S. Hammond (Wai-iti terrace) and Miss Fay Hammond have returned from a visit to Titnaru. Miss Ellen Oliver (Invercargill) has returned from a holiday spent in Geraldine and Christchurch.

Mr Melville Marshall, former Deputy Collector-General in the Malay States and now stationed at Canberra, arrived by air last week to visit his mothdr, Mrs Hope Marshall. Greymouth. who is ill and is at present staying with Mr and Mrs John Marshall, Chester street. Mr Marshall will return shortly to Canberra where he holds a position in the Federal Taxation Department.

Mr and Mrs W. Milne Shand (Koran street) have returned from a holiday spent at Blenheim and Nelson. Miss Ngaere Weavers and Miss Olive Prosser are staying at Kaikoura and are the guests of Mrs E. E. Weavers. ‘‘Mounsdale,’’ Lynton Downs.

Members of the music circle of the Canterbury Women’s Club, directed by Miss K. O’Connor, held a party at the club on Saturday night in aid of the Mayoress’s Parcels Fund. Most of the programme was provided by members of the Cavendish Club, Ashburton Their items included a play, produced by Mrs W. R. Ryburn, a musical cavalcade written and arranged by Mrs A T. Smith, and vocal solos by Miss May Allan. The accompanist was Mrs Newton Jones. Mrs J. C. Cullman a member of the Canterbury Women’s Club, played pianoforte solos. The following members of the signal section of the Kaikoura branch of the Women’s War Service Auxiliary passed in a recent test taken by Mr F. H. B. Ohlson:—Mrs J. K. Walker, Misses Joan Strahl. Hilary Lovett, and Rosalie Sterritt.

Mrs Baynes presided over a good attendance of members at the monthly meeting of the Papanui Methodist Missionary Auxiliary, held in the church parlour, and read an account of the life of Charles M. Alexander. Mrs Willmer sang several hymns by Alexander. Mrs Stevens was in charge of the produce stall.
