NEW RESERVES ON HILLS

GIFTS OF MRS M. G. SCOTT Christchurch is to have additional scenic reserves on the Port Hills, two areas having been given to the city by Mrs M. G. Scott. Yesterday afternoon the Christchurch Domains Board received advice from the Lands and Survey Department that the properties had been incorporated in the Christchurch domains, and would be under the control of the board. The main reserve is on the crest of the Port Hills, near the Summit roau, and to the north-east of the Sugar Loaf. It commands magnificent viaws of Christchurch and the Canterbury plains on one side, and of Rapaki Bay and Lyttelton harbour on the other. There are already a large number of trees growing on the reserve, and it is stated that speedy results from further planting can be assured in the locality. The Minister of Crpwn Lands (the Hon. J. G. Barclay) has sent a letter of thanks to Mrs Scott for the gift of this reserve and the other which is a little further down the hill, and the Domains Board also expressed its appreciation.
