ASHBURTON DRAWS WITH CANTERBURY B
For a spell Ashburton confined play to Canterbury’s end In the match between Ashburton seniors and Canterbury senior B on Saturday, but Canterbury soon reversed the position. Midfield play followed, with Ashburton making a sustained attack. Finally, the Ashburton forwards reached the circle and Dawson opened their score. Canterbury attacked from the ensuing bully, and soon equalised.
Just afterwards a penalty bully between Walter (Canterbury) and the Ashburton custodian was won by Walter. Ashburton retaliated, and within two minutes Loach had made the scores even. Ashburton 2, Canterbury 2. Canterbury brightened up at this stage, and Dawe staged a fine solo run, and transferred to Leney, who netted easily. Half-time: Canterbury 3, Ashburton 2. Ashburton attacked on resuming, but minor breaches nullified all efforts. Finally Dawson scored with a fine shot into the comer of the net. Canterbury 4, Ashburton 3. A period of midfield play followed, with Ashburton making isolated attacks. Eventually McGllp equalised with a stinging shot. The first stages were fast and exciting, the Ashburton custodian bringing off some clever saves. Final score:—Canterbury 4, Ashburton 4. Umpires: Messrs R. Grade and E. Fox. ASHBURTON JUNIORS BEATEN A match between Ashburton juniors and Canterbury secondary school representatives was also played at the polo grounds. After a bright display of hockey.' Canterbury won by 5 goals to 4. Scorers for Canterbury were Rollinson (2), Cummins (2), and Chew Lee, and for Ashburton P. Vincent (2), C. Finn, and J. Nelson. Messrs E. Gumming and A. C. Vincent were the umpires.
