PETROL RESELLERS’ HOURS
♦ ' FARMERS’ DIFFICULTIES
The Government will be urged to permit resellers of petrol in the country to sell petrol to licensed customers after the fixed hours. A remit to this effect was carried at a meeting at Timaru of the South Canterbury executive of the Farmers’ Union.
Mr W. Murray, who introduced the remit on behalf of the Timaru-St. Andrews branch, said that farmers were finding considerable difficulty getting supplies of petrol because of the restricted hours of sale, and the loss of means to have petrol delivered at, their farms. He said that the remit aimed at permitting holders of petrol licences to Secure petrol at country stores where the hours for the sale of petrol were less than the opening hours of the stores.
“The real difficulty is that country stores are working under such rigid control that they are unable to deliver petrol,” said Mr H. J. Stowell. “Sometimes we have to use up a gallon of petrol to pick up supplies.” The remit was carried unanimously.
