BURIED BY EARTH FALL

PUBLIC WORKS FATALITY

(P.A.) WANGANUI, Sept. 20. Two men employed by the Public Works Department and engaged in road making at Whenuakura were killed on Saturday afternoon by a heavy fall of earth. • They were Frank Dillon, aged about 24 years, whose parents live ?t Hunterville, and Thomas Christmas Jones, aged about 50 years, of Wanganui. The fatality occurred at 4 o’clock when the men were engaged in laying pipes for a new road. Without warning about 50 feet of earth moved on top of the men, burying them. Dillon’s body was recovered at 6 p.m. on Saturday, but the body of Jones was not recovered until 10.30 a.m. on Sunday.
