CHILDREN’S WAR EFFORT

—— ♦ £7612 RAISED IN THREE YEARS

School children in the Canterbury Education Board’s district have raised £7612 in a special war effort since the outbreak of war. This was reported to the board yesterday by Mr C. S. Thompson, who said the board would agree this was a splendid effort. This year, up to September 16, they had raised £1951 16s lid for the purchase of soldiers’ parcels. In 1940 they raised £3BOB for the purchase of ambulances and last year they raised £1852 for parcels, The Children’s War' Effort Committee had emphasised that the money should be raised by the selfdenial of the children themselves; they were not encouraged to ask their parents for money. The committee was assured by the teachers that this had been done.
