DORCAS SOCIETY

ANNUAL MEETING HELD The fifty-fifth annual report of the Oxford Terrace Baptist Dorcas Society, presented at the annual meeting of the society yesterday, said that the help given to the needy this year had been curtailed because of the restrictions on the purchase of material, but the amount of patriotic work had greatly increased. A total of 491 garments had been given to the poor, the Lady Galway Guild and the Manurewa Children’s home and patriotic work . included the making of hussifs and handkerchiefs, the finishing of footless socks, and the knitting of 142 scarves, 59 balaclavas, and 89 pairs of mittens. The report of the mothers’ meeting reviewed the varied activities of a successful year. The Rev. L. J. Boulton Smith presided at the annual meeting, when the following officers were elected;— President, Mrs G. F. Reddell; vice-president. Mrs C. W. Crowe and Mrs L. J. Boulton Smith; secretary, Mrs E. F. Langran; treasurer, Mrs G. J. Jones; visitor, Mrs E. A. Sheate; cutters, Mesdames H H. Holland, F. Hueston, P. K. Miles, and Miss E. Clark; sub-committee. Miss C. Robinson, and Mrs J. Chisholm; representative on National Council of Women, Mrs J. McCracken; leaders. Mothers’ Meeting, Mrs V. Sim and Mrs A. E. Brown.
