Price of Candles ' The Price Tribunal has announced that because of substantiated higher manufacturing costs, largely as a result of increased landed costs on imported raw material, it has authorised a higher price for household candles. The new retail price will be Is 3d per lb in all centres where there are wholesale merchants, and Is 3}d elsewhere. The new price for candles in less than packet lots will be 3d each. A price order to this effect was gazetted last night.—(P.A.) Versatile Aeroplane Hawker Hurricanes have now got auxiliary fuel tanks under the wings to let them fly further into Europe, writes a London correspondent. The Hurricane is the most versatile aircraft of the war. In the Battle of Britain it was a fighter with eight machine-guns. Then it was given 12 machine-guns or, alternatively, four 20 millimetre cannon. It became a bomber with machineguns and two 2501b bombs. It has taken off from ship decks. It has been catapulted. And it has been adapted for work under a blazing sun and for fighting over Russia’s snows.
