SOUTH PACIFIC AIR COMMAND

GENERAL KENNY APPOINTED (Rec. 1 a.tn.) SYDNEY, Sept. 16. Major-General G. C. Kenny, of the United States Army Air Force, has been appointed commander of the Allied Air Forces in the south-west Pacific. He succeeds Lieutenant-Gen-eral George Brett, who has been given an appointment in America. General Kenny’s last assignment was an operational command in the United States. The announcement of this first major change in the Allied High Command since General Mac Arthur made his original appointments in April was made at south-west Pacific headquarters to-day. Major-General Ralph Royce, the leader of the famous Phillipine raid, who was General Brett’s chief of staff, has also returned to America. 1 General Kenny, who is 53, was a reconnaissance pilot in the last war, and was twice decorated. He was promoted to major-general in February last.
